Exhibition of icon painter Gregoris Balogiannis
The Christian and Byzantine Museum presents 50 representative works of painter Gregoris Balogiannis’ career, the man and artist who devoted his life to Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting.
The presentation is complemented by a documentary video about the life of the artist, directed by Christos Konstantopoulos. Gregoris Balogiannis was born in Grevena, was raised in an orphanage and graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Athens in 1963 with distinction on frescoes and portable icons technique.
He worked tirelessly painting dozens of churches throughout Greece, temples and portable icons, and worked with Fotis Kontoglou in the painting of the Saint Nikolaos church located in Patission street in Athens, and with Costas Georgakopoulos in the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Voula, Athens.
The works of Gregoris Balogiannis will be exhibited until January 13, 2019, in the Museum's temporary exhibitions hall.
