Virgin Mary the Formidable Protection
The Holy Monastery of Koutloumousiou, also known as Holy Monastery of Metamorphosis, 6th in the hierarchical order at Mount Athos, has ten chapels, seven of which can be found in various places inside the Monastery. The icon of the Virgin Mary, known as "Formidable Protection" is placed inside the templo of the Nave chapel of "Formidable Protection)" built in 1733, which is located in the central temple of the Monastery.
The icon is the only object that was rescued after a fire at the metochi of the Monastery in Crete; when it was returned to the Monastery, the icon continued to make miracles, as per the testimonies of monks and worshipers. Reference is made to a miracle at a fire that broke out in the forest of the Monastery, with the monks running carrying the icon, the fire was extinguished by a torrential rain.
The litany of the icon occurs every Easter Tuesday at the Monastery of Protato, reciprocating the litany of the icon "Axion Esti", one day earlier at the Monastery of Koutloumousiou.
