Ahepa supports the reconstruction of st nicholas at ground zero
Religious monuments need the support of all of us. Notre Dame is a shining example. When the need arose, those who were able offered generous amounts for its quick restoration. The Church of St. Nicholas at Ground Zero, the site which marked the modern American history on September 11, 2001, became for the Greek Orthodox Church a sacred cause, because along with the construction of the church, a message of hope and continuity was been communicated, a powerful message of love and happiness against terror.
The recent AHEPA donation of the amount of 1 million US Dollars to rebuild the church gave courage and hope to the new Archbishop of America Elpidophoros but also to thousands of Orthodox Faith believers in the US. Mr. George Loucas, outgoing High President of AHEPA, who delivered the check to his Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros said that “Since 1922, AHEPA has stood by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America thus creating the ‘Twin Pillars of Hellenism’ in America that we see today.” Mr. Nicholas Karacostas, Chairman of the Organization's Board, who was in charge of the campaign for the reconstruction of St. Nicholas, handed the check together with Mr. Loucas. In his statement, Mr. Karakostas stressed that AHEPA is the only non-religious organization which has fulfilled such a donation for this purpose and thanked all the donors of the Organization.
